high five for insta-friday

its friday, so im linking up with lauren, jeanette, and rachel to share a few of my favorite things from this week.

ONE:  the highlight of my week was being able to go with jen to try on wedding dresses.  she lives in CA, so naturally i assumed that i would miss out on a lot of her wedding planning.  nope, erin flew her home so she could have her mom and bridesmaids with her.  SPESH!  we had a nice little bridal brunch and then headed to davids bridal to try on a ton of dresses.  the best part is that she found one.  yay!  i cannot wait to be a part of their special day.  the next step is for pj to come up for a sleepover and dress shopping for us.  i love weddings!

TWO:  i love that this little guy can fall asleep almost anywhere.  daddy's lap at church.

THREE:  i found a new favorite beer this week at trader joes.  i picked it up as a "built your own 6 pack" but i think i will be just buying 6 of these next time :)

FOUR:  the fresh 20 keeps giving me amazing and healthy recipes.  i loved this weeks menu!

FIVE:  new running shoes to train for the 4 miler i signed up for in april.

HAPPY WEEKEND!

now, im sitting here after by big accomplishment thinking "what the heck have i gotten myself into?" i cant muster up the excitement to train properly and the thought of not training makes me feel super anxious.  so i will ask pinterest for the inspiration and motivation i need to complete my run today.

in case you are in need of the same motivation, here are a few things that spoke to me:

high five for inst-friday

its friday, so im linking up with lauren, jeanette, and rachel to share a few of my favorite things from this week.

ONE:  my sister and i attended a womens retreat last weekend.  it was awesome to be able to fellowship with her and other ladies from my church.  on saturday morning, we woke up at the crack of dawn for a cold but great run!

TWO: on monday, henry turned 4 months old.  he did great at his wellness visit, weighing in at 14.5 lbs.  they gave him two shots and he didnt even cry. in fact, daddy picked him up and he started smiling.  he did not get this from me :)

THREE: this week i finished the workout plan i started on january 1st.  you can read more about that here.

FOUR: this week's fresh 20 menu is great.  i made homemade pesto and then i learned several ways to use it.  sunday night's dinner was turkey burgers with pesto, on monday i smeared it all over our salmon before baking it and  wednesday, i diluted it a little to make some yummy pasta. the best part is that everything was super healthy.

FIVE: i leave you with this last image of cuddle time.  i took last night off from cooking to sew and snuggle with mister.

HAPPY WEEKEND!

change

do you follow 100 days of real food or food babe?  if i know you in real life, then you have  probably heard me talk about their blogs.  either way, they are trying hard to make a change in how we, as a country, eat.

my eyes were opened when i started reading the 100 days of real food blog in january.  since then, i have made a lot of changes to what i feed my family.  i was really angry when i first read this post.  its one thing for a company to have to reinvent how they make a product.  its another thing to know they have already created a safer product and they do not offer it in the u.s.  after being angry, i decided to feel empowered instead.  i now have the knowledge to choose to not purchase these products.  i choose to not feed them to my family.

these two ladies have combined forces to take action.  lets celebrate the fact that we can demand food that is not harmful.  take a look at this video and click on the link below to sign the petition.

i did it!!!

after henry was born i sat around and enjoyed him without any pressure to start working out yet.  breastfeeding was doing a pretty good job helping me loose the first bit of weight and i was still recovering from my c-section.  i finally decided i had to do something, so on january 1st, i began a 60 day, 3 level workout routine i found on pinterest.  i shared a lot of this with you when i told you about how much weight i had gained during my pregnancy and my plan to get fit.

last night i completed my goal and it felt great.  i had to do a 1 hour jog, 100 jumping jacks, 50 sit ups and 45 reverse crunches.  husband and henry met me at a new trail that has an entrance at the art museum.  it was a great view and kept my attention so i didnt get bored.  the bad thing about running a new trail though, was that i did not know there was some crazy hills.  they slowed me down quite a bit and i had to take a second to compose myself at the top of two, but i did it.  the sun was going down so i finished up the last 10 minutes in parking lot.

its crazy to think that when i started, i literally could not do one sit up, much less run for 10 minutes.  i know a lot of you out there might think this was a silly goal and its ridiculous that it took me 60 days to work up to that but oh well ... im kind of proud of myself.  i think this workout plan is awesome for anyone that needs to take baby steps to getting fit.

whats next?  what happens when i dont have a sheet of paper to tell me what and when to do?  well, thanks to pinterest and youtube, there are so many options without joining a gym.  my new goal is to do at least two 30 min runs and one hour long run a week.  i will mix in some strength training and yoga about 3 times a week.  i will make sure that i have at least one rest day a week so i dont get burnt out.  creating some sort of schedule will help me stay motivated, but im looking forward to working out around my life instead of planning things around my workouts.  im hoping to improve on my running time and endurance and sign up for a 5k asap.

anyone out there have a suggestion for yoga dvds for runners?

high five for insta-friday

today im linking up with lauren, jeanette, and rachel to share five of my favorite things from this past week.

ONE: last sunday was beautiful!  husband and i took henry to the lake for my 40 minute jog.  the best part was that i actually made it and felt great afterwards.  i only have 4 days left to complete my 60 day workout plan.

TWO:  i finally got my hands on a wooden pallet.  now i just have to figure out what i want to do with it.

THREE: our little guy has been doing a lot this week.  he found his feet and is constantly staring at them.  he also sits pretty well in a bouncy seat now.  he is too unstable to leave him in it for an extended period of time but he loves it!

FOUR:  this weeks fresh 20 menu was really good.  the mediterranean lemon chicken with veggie dill couscous has been one of my favorite meals to make ... and eat.

FIVE: i bought this small container at walmart last weekend.  it makes my heart smile to have henry's milk nice and organized in the freezer.  last week it was a hot mess ... or a freezing mess :)

HAPPY WEEKEND!
